Pre Season Mets

The New York Mets of 2009 are a tough team to figure out. One thing is sure Putz and K-Rod are here and we don't need to worry about the blown saves all year. But will we get enough offensive output from the rest of the team? Beltran, Reyes and Wright are yearly staples and will put up there numbers no matter what, barring injury.

But as for the bum we have a second base, Luis Castillo. I hope he has put all that work in that he has been saying he was going to do. He has preformed better than expected in the spring but I hope he does not think he could ever or would ever be a better lead-off than the best in the game, Jose Reyes. Castillo has a few weeks to settle in because of his horrible contract (thanks Omar), but NY fans get restless and if he isn't performing I am already endorsing putting Alex Cora in to see what spark he can bring to the position of second base and hopefully that will light a fire under Castillo.

Delgado is a big question mark on the team as well. My thoughts on him is that financially we were stuck with him. We guaranteed to pay him 8 million and he's only getting 12. So no brain-er with that decision. He should produce a lot better in the beginning of the season but I dont except him to be as bad as he was in the beginning and as great as he was in the end of the season. A lot of Mets' fans were calling for getting Manny, while I wanted his offensive production in one of our corner outfield spots his antics would cause a distraction even in a big city like NY and the Mets do not need any more excuses this year.

Now how do I think we will do. I think it is very important to jump out to a decent start and then when all those small market teams realize they cant afford the players they have and the Mets need something to get more butts in the seats (cause Citi fields nuance has worn off) we will pick up top dollar players at bargin prices. Thus, helping us ensure a playoff spot this year.

Omar knows what he's doing (I hope). He has put out a team that could have won the championship the past 3 years but the players have let him down. If the owners let him do alittle wheel.ing and dealing during the trade deadline the Mets have a great shot at making the World Series

March Madness

Today is the first day of the big dance and the debate many people are having is it the best day of the year for sports fans. I don't think it is, only on a technicality. Super Bowl Sunday is the best day of the year for sports because even those non sports fans watch for the commercials and the hype around the Super Bowl.

The reason why the beginning of this tournament is so special is because of how many ways it impacts the lives of American's. This is the beginning of the best tournament in the country and gives all of those out there highs and lows while some of us throw our bracket sheets away and others go to collect there office pool winnings. For the next 4 days there will be non-stop college basketball action. Cinderella's slipping on the glass shoe and many locks going home early.

While it not only gives us something to watch, it gets us out of the rut of the horrible month of February in which nothing all that interesting in sports is going on. Spring is in the air and baseball is quickly approaching. This tournament is the best thing to happen to sports every year. Whether it be Duke's win over Kentucky to help them win the National Championship or a buzzer beater in which upsets your favorite it is always exciting and always a good time.
